The indomitable lions of Cameroon led by Coach Clearence Seedorf have qualified for the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be hosted by Egypt in June this year. The lions picked up their qualification ticket this evening at the Amadu Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé after beating the Comoros by 3 – 0.
The first goal was scored at the 36th minute by the Captain of the squad and Paris Saint Germain’s Eric Maxim Choupo Moting; A goal that increased the momentum of the team and determination to score more goals.
Few minutes into the second half of play, China based Christian Bassagog netted in Cameroon’s 2nd goal at the 54th minute. Olympic Marseille forward, Clinton Njie who has recently not been very productive at the national level scored the 3rd and final goal during injury time to qualify Cameroon for this year’s AFCON.
The Comoros had a handful of scoring opportunities but could not materialize any of them. This is the closest they have ever come to qualifying for an AFCON. They have finished 3rd after Cameroon and Morocco.
Cameroon is now second in group B after the Atlas Lions of Morocco who had a virgin draw against Malawi in Blantyre on Friday. This thus puts Malawi at the bottom of the group.
