North West Cameroon: Helicopter Crash In Oku Leaves One Police Officer Dead And Six Others Injured

A military helicopter marked BA 501 has crashed in Oku, Bui division of the restive North West region of Cameroon killing one person and leaving six others injured today Monday, May 13, 2019.

The helicopter which had seven members on board took off from Tobin municipal stadium in Oku at about 11:00am local time but came down abruptly minutes later in the bushes of Elak. Though the exact cause of the accident has not been established, it is reported that the helicopter crashed after developing a fault while landing.

According to sources, a Police Officer of Nkor in Noni Subdivision, Gwe Victor died on the spot while the Divisional Officers of Oku in Bui division, Bum in Boyo division and Mesaje in Donga Mantung division who were also on board the helicopter were all injured and are currently receiving medical attention at the hospital. The other three passengers on board; the Pilot, co-Pilot and Mechanic also sustained injuries.

According to reports coming from the Kumbo Community radio, the administrative and security officers were being airlifted from Bamenda to their various units after meeting with Prime Minister Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute who ended his four days peace mission to the North West region yesterday, May 12 in Bamenda.
