Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute Begins Peace Mission To The South West Region Today

After the North West Region, President Biya’s special envoy, Prime Minister Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute has started his four days peace mission to the crisis hit South West Region of Cameroon today May 14, 2019. He was received at 11:00 am local time by the Governor of the South West region Bernard Okalia Bilai and other administrative officials at the historic Moungo bridge.

PM Dion Ngute who is also an illustrious son of the South West region was clad in the native attire of the Sawa people, a royal broom and staff in both hands as he is not only a Prime Minister but also a traditional ruler from Ndian division.

Before arriving Buea, the Prime Minister passed through the commercial towns of Tiko and Mutengene as the young and old aligned across the streets to welcome the peace crusader. He also stopped at the Soppo market in Buea to commune with the traders before arriving at the Parliamentarian flat.

On arrival at the Parliamentarian flat, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute met a group of wailing women. Dressed in black, women of the South West and North West Women Task Force (SNWOT) came out to express  their grievances to the Peace Crusader.

According to their leader, Dr. Beatrice Titanji, they want the crisis to be resolved as soon as possible as they are tired of losing their sons ‘’ Be it a soldier or an amba boy who has been killed, he is the son of a woman and that is why as women, we feel this pain most.’’ The women also asked for the release of all detainees as well as a ceasefire that will pave a way for the dialogue which has been much clamored for.

Responding to the women, the PM in pidgin English told the women that the Head of State has sent him to covey a special message of peace to them and he is willing to organize a dialogue to end the crisis “ I’m here on a peace mission. The Head of State sent me here to tell you and our children that he is willing to organize the dialogue that has been asked for. Let our children leave the bushes, lay down their arms and resume school. We don’t want any child in the bush to die again. The Head of State is going to give them jobs’’

The Prime minister began with consultative talks today at Mountain hotel in Buea and will meet with traditional authorities ,the civil society, the clergy, journalists and other groups in the region. PM Dion Ngute’s trip to the South West region will also take him to Limbe, capital of Fako division and Kumba in Meme division.
