The chairman of Cameroon’s frontline opposition party The Social Democratic Front (SDF), has been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen today June 28, 2019 at his Ntarinkon residence in Bamenda, North West region of the country.
According to a communiqué from the communication office of the SDF, unidentified gunmen stormed the residence of Chairman Ni John Fru Ndi at about 4:00 pm local time, shot his body guard before taking him away. The body guard who resisted the abduction sustained a bullet wound on his leg and is now responding to treatment at a hospital.
As of now, the destination where the gunmen took Chairman Fru Ndi to is still unknown. The reason behind his abduction is also unknown.
This is the second time the chairman of the SDF is being abducted since the start of the Anglophone crisis. On April 29, 2019, he was kidnapped and released hours later by alleged separatist fighters while en route to bury a fallen parliamentarian of his party, Hon. Joseph Banadzem Lukong in Kumbo.
The abductors questioned the chairman on why he has refused to call back members of parliaments and senators from parliament and the senate respectively. According to an emphatic Fru Ndi, he cannot call them back because he would not have the voice to talk to Mr. Biya as he has been talking to him.
