Three Cameroonian Referees To Officiate AFCON 2019 Final.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed three Cameroonian referees to officiate the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) final between Algeria and Senegal today July 19, 2019 at the Cairo International stadium in Egypt.
Alioum Sidi from Cameroon will be the center referee of the biggest game on the continent. He will be assisted by two other Cameroonians Evariste Menkouande and Elvis Noupoue. The same trio handled the opening match of the competition between host Egypt and Zimbabwe still at the Cairo International stadium.
Earlier on Wednesday CAF announced South African referee Victor Gomes on their official social media platforms as the main referee for tomorrow’s match. However, things changed when CAF recently released the list of officials who will handle the AFCON final match, replacing Gomes and his assistants with Alioum and his own assistants.
It is reported that CAF made a mistake by prematurely announcing Gomes as the main referee for the match. The final decision of the confederation may have been influenced by the impartiality and professionalism the Cameroonian referees have exhibited throughout the tournament. Football lovers across the continent have hailed the trio for being the best so far.
Apart from the opening match, the main referee Alioum Sidi also officiated the group stage match between Morocco and Cote d’Ivoire and the quarterfinal match between Tunisia and Madagascar.
