Nicki Minaj may have had an incredible rap career so far but now she’s leaving all that behind to focus on something else: A family. Well, it’s said that Family is everything right?
The rapper who has been nominated 10 times for the Grammy Awards announced her plan to retire on Twitter Thursday.
She took to twitter and shared this short message announcing her retirement “I’ve decided to retire & have my family. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, in the box- cuz ain’t nobody checkin me. Love you for LIFE.” The tweet was accompanied by a kissy face, heart and unicorn emoji.
Many of Minaj’s fans and fellow musicians seemed shocked by the decision. “Very busy prepping my new video but @NICKIMINAJ you better not retire! I love you! K bye,” singer Todrick Hall wrote on Twitter.
Another tweet came from Rapper Young M.A and it simply read, “You must be hacked?”
In an episode of her Queen Radio show last August, the rapper revealed she planned to marry boyfriend Kenneth Petty in “about 80 days.” However, she added that she didn’t want a big wedding anytime soon.
“I have to work on my album and I have a lot to focus on that I don’t want to do the big wedding now,” she said. “We’ll do the big wedding later.”
Minaj also confirmed that she and her boyfriend Kenneth Petty got their first marriage license in June on her radio show. She’s called him husband since then.
If Nicki’s in fact done with the rap game … she leaves behind a storied legacy. Earlier this year, she became the first female rapper to officially sell 100 million units across her albums, singles and features as certified by the Recording Industry Association of America.
Aside from her 10 times Grammy nominations, Nicki earned a Guinness World Record in 2017 for most Billboard Hot 100 entries by a solo female artist and hauled in five MTV Video Music Awards.
Well, she has made it clear that she is done with music but what about her popular “Queen Radio” show? It’s still unclear if she is done with that as well.
