Mercy Chinwo is a renowned Nigerian gospel musician, singer, and songwriter who emerged as the winner of Nigerian Idol Season 2 in 2012.

 Mercy Chinwo was born in Portharcourt, Rivers State. She lost her father at a very young age.

Music Career

Mercy Chinwo released her first single, “Testimony”, in 2015, and “Igwe” a year later.

The song that brought her to the limelight was “Excess Love,” released in 2018. She went on to release other hit songs like Omekanaya, still in 2018, Äkamdinelu (2019) Oh Jesus! (2019), Obinasom (2020), and more.


Just one year after emerging as the winner of the second season of Nigerian Idol, Mercy Chinwo landed her first film role in Yvonne Nelson’s film, House of Gold where she acted as Lucia, starring alongside Yvonne Nelson, Majid Michel and Nigerian singer, Omawumi among others.

The film House of Gold was awarded Best Picture at the Ghana Movie Awards and Best Ghanaian Movie at the 2013 City People.

On Thursday, June 23, 2022, Mercy Chinwo took to social media to announce that she said yes to the love of her life, Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa. Yes, Mercy is off the market.


In 2012, Mercy Chinwo won Nigerian Idol.

In 2018, she was awarded the Best Gospel Artiste at the CLIMAX Awards 2018.

In 2019, Mercy Chinwo was named winner in the categories Africa Gospel New Artiste of the Year, Africa Gospel Female Artiste of the Year and Africa Gospel Song of the Year (Excess Love) at the maiden edition of the Africa Gospel Awards Festival (AGAFEST 2019)

In 2020, Mercy Chinwo won Gospel Artiste of the year at the AFRIMMA Awards.
